What's New In October 2021: Tabs Element, Typography Control Panel & More Templates

Last Updated: November 1, 2021

Another month has passed, and as we draw closer to the year-end, we've been hard at work updating the OptimizePress platform to bring your more new features and templates.

Halloween is just upon us or may have passed by the time you read this post, and next month we have Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday!!

Before we go into the biggest sales month of the year, let's reflect on what we released in October.

Feature 1

Tabs Element

We have just rolled out our brand new tabs element inside our page builder. Using tabs on your pages will help group together multiple pieces of content into a tabbed area that can be seen at the visitors choice.

Look at this example on a FAQ page. It uses tabs to break up the FAQ categories.

Here's another example where the content for each team is split into tabs.  When you click a team category, the content below changes and displays what's inside that tab.

This tabs example from Asana uses tabs to show features with animated images. This lets visitors see more features about the software and optimises the page for conversion as visitors are not overwhelmed with too much content.

Tabs allow you to have more content accessible on a page while keeping your page more organised and easier for visitors to consume.

The new tabs element also lets you drop other elements into each tab section like opt-in forms, videos, images, FAQ and even maps.

We've included a range of pre-set designs for you to choose from, and it has the flexibility for building complex layouts like the examples above or keeping them simple and clean like the example below.

The tabs options also have active, inactive and hover state effects to make it clear which tab area the user is viewing.

The tabs element is very flexible, allowing you to build any of the examples shown above.

Tabs features:

Choose from a range of pre-set tab designs
Set default active tab
Animate tab content on load
Set background images, borders and colours
Set tabs with text, icon or image
Edit tab colours for active, inactive and hover state
Edit tab text colours for active, inactive and hover state
Edit tab icon colours for active, inactive and hover state
Edit tab borders for active, inactive and hover state
Edit tab shadows for active, inactive and hover state
Add new tabs anywhere between existing tabs
Move tabs around
Add any other element inside of tab content item

Feature 2

Page typography control panel

We've revamped how you set the master typography on your pages with a new master typography control panel and a quick link in the main editor top menu.

Here's how the control panel looks.

watch the typography settings video

Please watch this video to understand how powerful the typography settings are and how it can override all your text styles on a page.

The new typography controls let you change styles for each individual item:

H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6, paragraph (body), lists, hyperlinks, blockquotes, preformatted text, and override any font styles.

The benefit of the new typography settings is how you individually set styles for each text style and override existing styles that might already be applied to a template you are using.

The typography controls will change the font family, font size, colour or alignment for any chosen style (e.g. paragraph) if the elements of that type on the page do not have an inline setting.  So if you have already set a specific font, font size on a page and not reset to default, the typography settings will not change those texts on your page.

If you do want to override ALL texts on your page, we have also introduced a new override feature for all fonts styles.   This is extremely powerful when you want to change all font styles in one click completely.

The "all headings" option and "all texts" options (shown in the video) will allow you to make a quick change to the fonts/sizes etc of all the items within that category in the typography so you can change all headlines to use open sans for example.  It wont override on the page or make any difference to you changing those individual options - it's just designed to make it quicker to make bigger changes.

The override option if used for any item will override ALL items of that type e,g. paragraph, headline 1 etc. to use the font, size, colour and spacing options set in the typography.

You can also style blog posts in one paragraph block rather than adding new elements for each headline and paragraph (watch the video).

The old way was adding a headline element, styling it. Then add a paragraph element below and styling that. So using two elements and way way more clicks to achieve the heading and subheading look we wanted.

Now, you simply add the paragraph element, add your text. Next, you highlight the text you want to  be a headline, open the text format editor and then choose the heading format.

Again, be sure to watch the video above to see exactly how this is done.

That's not all. We also added a new Line Spacing to paragraphs (this is not the same as Line Height).

This option adds space between each paragraph, allowing you to add white space between blocks of text, making it easy to read.

section & row font override

And there's more!! A new section override feature allows you to override all the fonts in only one of your sections, but it will not change other fonts in other sections.

This is useful when you have a heavy content section and want to change the styling of that single section in one go.

To use this: Highlight the Section > click the Cog Wheel > Advanced Options > Typography Override

The section & row override will overide only those fonts in that section or row.

Note, if your fonts aren't changing, use the reset button to reset the font family and sizes.

Be aware this override will override ALL font styles, decoration, colours and alignment so check if you have text on different background colours before using it.

You can always go into each font and style it, but the override will use the default font styles you set in the typography control panel, and it will override everything.

Remember, we have the undo option to fix small mistakes and page revisions if you need to roll back further in time. This is good to know for the first time you use it.

And lastly, we added a way to add hyperlinks colours to your overall page, so there is no need to style a link individually.

Is it possible to have verticle tabs with the content on the right of the tabs?

      • David Frosdick

Hi Andrew, no vertical at this time. We might add it in or make a new element for that feature. It’s something we dicussed.

    • Andrew McGivern

I love the tabs feature! Is it possible to link to a tab and have it be the active tab if clicked from a link on the same page or a different page?

      • David Frosdick

You could use the “select element” link option to create a link to a specific area on the page. Then copy that link and use it anywhere.

I absolutely like the new typography settings, as they make it easy to achieve an uniform look & feel. Several questions/suggestions:

      1. Will the override button work only for the current page in the OptimizeBuilder editor or for all the pages across the website? I guess only for the current one but I hope you will consider an option to override the whole website.

      2. Will you consider a similar panel for overriding other elements, e.g. buttons, backgrounds, image overlays, etc.?

      3. Would you consider providing an ability to define overrides for light and dark combinations (e.g. text on a dark background, text on a light background)?

Loving the new Typography Control Panel. Finally we don’t have to set all our Headings, Line Height every single time (minimizes the inline editing)… I wasn’t even aware of the “All headings” and “All texts” options until I watch the video. *super powerful* 👍

I remembered I’ve submitted this ‘typography feature’ back in the day, while OP3 was still in beta. Super glad to see it now. 😇

    • mauricio

the tabs function made my day!! i really need that, thanks!!!

    • Douglas Melvin

Due to personal sircumstances I have not used op for some time.

Looking at your new updates makes me want to get back to build some websites again.
      Thanks
      Douglas

      • David Frosdick

Hey Douglas! Glad this has created a spark for you. It’s even easier to use than before.

    • Fábio Filipe

Features that would be great OP have:
      – Membership plugin, I think if you do that will be a game changer. Because you have de subscriptions but I can’t use them because It was very hard to control manually.
      – The membership with some sort of course control that allow to see which content was watched;
      – Basic support to book selling, so we can make the free plus shipping funnel.

      Ps. Love OP ❤️
